Recap
Detailed recap of the episode which contains MAJOR SPOILERS. |
As Sunday dinner is served, Frank, Nicky and Jack are all using their phones. Frank puts his phone away, but Nicky and Sean are still texting, saying that they are almost done. Henry reminds everyone about the "ironclad" rule about no phones at Sunday dinner. Nicky finally puts her phone away after her mother demands her to do so. Jack says the text is important that "she" (a girl by the name of Jenna Gerrity) is finally responding to him. Nicky talks about Frank also using his phone at the dinner table, to which Jamie comes to his defense, saying that Frank is the NYPD Commissioner, in charge of keeping everyone safe. Danny states that even with his importance to the city, he rarely uses his phone at the table.
Henry then states how he wants to go back to the time when everyone writes postcards and letters. He thinks that while he may be a Luddite for thinking that, things were more civilized back in those days. Danny agrees, although he does not know what a Luddite is. Erin believes that there is no going back, and Jack does not think technological advancement is always bad. Frank responds that it is possible to use great inventions for bad things, such as addiction or "sad substitute for human contact". Jamie thinks Frank is being extreme, and Erin believes that "a phone is a phone is a phone". Frank then states that no great stories in their lives start with texting. Danny agrees. Henry laughingly agrees, and cites that as the reason why phones are banned at the dinner table. When asked Nicky and Sean clearly disagree. They say grace. |
