"Shoot the Messenger" is the seventh episode of the fifth season of Blue Bloods.
Synopsis
Lt. Dee Ann Carver wants to get to know her detectives better by doing ride-alongs and Danny is first up. When they happen upon a shooting at a playground they come across a mother who has been gunned down, thankfully her baby is okay.
A young man tries to run and is snagged by Danny who later interviews in order to identify a suspect but his methods cause tension between him and Lt. Carver.
Elsewhere, Jamie and Eddie come across a woman hanging in a park. When the detective on the case is quick to dismiss the possibility of homicide, Jamie and Eddie investigate on their own, quickly identifying a possible suspect.
Meanwhile, doing a TV interview with newly appointed interim DA Robert McCoy, Frank is put on the spot when McCoy announces that he doesn't plan to prosecute petty marijuana possession.
Later when he talks to Erin about it, her ambivalence on the subject clues him in to their relationship which he doesn't approve of.
