Joseph "Joe" Hill is a Detective in the New York City Police Department. He is part of the Brooklyn North Firearms Investigation Unit. He is the son of Joseph Reagan and Paula Hill. Joe is the first grandchild of Francis and Mary Reagan. He is the nephew of Daniel Reagan, Erin Reagan and Jameson Reagan. Joe is the older cousin of Nicole Reagan-Boyle, Jack Reagan and Sean Reagan. Joe is the first great-grandchild of Henry Reagan and Betty Reagan.
Biography
Joe is the oldest of the Reagan grandchildren. His parents were classmates at the Police Academy but his mother dropped out and withheld her pregnancy from his father who later died without ever knowing the truth. Joe was raised solely by his mother, who told him that his father was a cop and he desired to follow in his footsteps. As a young adult, he became a police detective and made quite the name for himself, as an upstart.
His existence was revealed when his cousin Sean Reagan ran his DNA through a genealogy site and discovered he was the son of his late uncle Joseph Reagan. As a result, Frank was surprised by Joe being a cop like his father and reached out to him under the guise of needing to review him and they had a good talk. Afterwards, Joe's mother revealed that Joe had already ran his own DNA for answers and suspected something was up from his meeting with Frank and she was forced to reveal the truth about his connection to the Reagan family, leading him to understand everything. Much later, his cousin invites him to their family dinner and he meets his uncles, aunts, and great-grandfather. [1]
In Season 11, he continues to bond with his new family but a reporter digs up his birth certificate and his relation to the Reagan family is made public. Joe being a Reagan caused him to be bombarded with attention of how he followed in his family footsteps and caused him to get in a brawl with other cops since he didn't disclose this news. To avoid this new attention, he goes on an undercover assignment with the FBI but his cover is blown. The organization he was investigating comes after him but he is saved by uncles. He returns with his family and apologizes for ditching them and fully accepts his heritage.[2][3]
During Season 12, Joe has more or less continued his life as a cop. At one point, he is attacked by a vengeful crook he put away and nearly had thoughts of revenge and this caused his grandfather to pay him a visit. Although Joseph spoke to him, he did not want special treatment nor want the family involved. Regardless, his assailant was found and Joe had to identify him. In a talk with Anthony Abetemarco, he is told that he is lucky to have people like the Reagans and be apart of a real family. Joe speaks to his grandfather and promises to attend an upcoming family dinner again. Frank accepts his offer and gives Joe a framed portrait of his father, as Joe previously mentioned not having one. [4]
Personality
According to his grandfather Frank, his uncles Danny and Jamie and his aunt Erin, Joe is extremely similar to his father, willing to say or do anything, especially around family.
Since coming to accept the Reagans, Joe has come to care for each of them. He attends family dinners and joins in banter. He stayed by the sides of his uncle's when they dealt with a bomb and attacked a perp for shooting his uncle Jaime.
Relationships
He mentions that he doesn't always tell women of his job, believing they would be nervous in approaching him. As of yet, Joe has only been seen with Deanna Parker, a defense attorney. They had a one-night stand and he happened to overhear her conversation with a client, who later kidnapped her. Thanks to his aunt and Anthony Abetemarco, he saves her and she learns of him being a cop.
