Javier Baez, better known as Tic-Tac, was the older brother of Maria Baez and a drug addict. Javier and Maria were estranged for several years.

Biography

When they were younger, Maria looked up to Javier. Throughout their childhood, they were best friends. Javier stayed back a grade (so they could be in the same classes) and often protected Maria from bullies. Their relationship changed when Javier became addicted to drugs. From this point, Javier became known as Tic-Tac as he would swallow anything resembling drugs. After years of remaining close with Javier, Maria cut Javier out of her life. His drug use caused several problems for their family. Eventually their parents separated due to the stress of trying to keep him clean, his lies and stealing.

Bad Blood

In Bad Blood, Maria and Javier came into contact again when he was a suspect in a murder investigation. When Detective Baez and Detective Reagan went to interview him, he attempted to escape from them. In his attempt to escape from them, Detective Baez tackled him through a glass door. After tackling him through the glass door, Detective Baez and Detective Reagan arrested him. After being placed in a holding cell at the 54th Precinct, Detective Baez and Detective Reagan interviewed him. During the interview, Javier claimed he abandoned his drug use for three months. When asked Detective Reagan asked Javier an additional question, Javier stated he was employed at CZE Tech because he was good with computers. Once his employment was verified by Sergeant Gormley, Javier was cleared as a suspect in the murder investigation.

Later during the episode, Detective Baez and Detective Reagan discover the intended target of the murder was Javier. However when Detective Baez and Detective Reagan travel to Javier's apartment to interview Javier, they discover he overdosed on drugs. Javier survives the drug overdose. While Javier is recovering in the hospital, Detective Reagan states Javier needs to act as bait to make a case against the person who attempted to kill him. When Javier encounters the person, he is taken to another location by the person where he is almost killed before Detective Baez and Detective Reagan save him.

Partners

In Partners, Javier appears again when a DEA shipment is hijacked. Maria is devastated when it appears Javier has returned to using drugs. Upon interviewing him, Javier reveals he became an informant for the DEA in an effort to make Maria proud of him again. When it appears Javier's status as a confidential informant is compromised, Detective Baez and Detective Reagan track Javier by identifying the mole and raid the auto shop where the drug dealers are. During the raid Maria Baez stumbles across Javier. Javier steps between her and a shooter, losing his life to protect Maria.
