"Hate is Hate" is the first episode of the twelfth season of Blue Bloods.

Synopsis[]

As Danny consults a psychic to solve the murder of a young boy, Frank is at odds with Mayor Chase over how to protect the city from an uptick in crime following a high profile shooting. Erin investigates a decades' old case where the primary eyewitness to the killing is her boss, D.A. Kimberly Crawford who was thirteen years old at the time. Eddie's partner, Officer Witten is accused of assaulting a young man and brandishing her service firearm at a crowd of unarmed civilians.

Detailed recap of the episode which contains MAJOR SPOILERS.
A schoolbus, carrying Jewish children, cuts off a SUV behind it. The driver of the SUV goes into road rage and screams at the school bus driver, and then pulls out a gun, shooting at the bus. Two passengers are shot.

Danny and Baez respond to a call, where a five-year-old child named Michael Carter is shot. Danny briefly questions his father, who is unable to provide any information. Baez starts asking bystanders for any information, but is unsuccessful.

A customer in a convenience store becomes abusive. Officers Janko and Witten respond to the incident, and subduing the perp. But onlookers think they are abusing the prep, with one of them striking Witten. Witten draws her weapon in defending herself. Seargent Jamie Reagan arrives on the scene and orders Witten to holster her weapon.

At the DA's Office, Erin hands Kimberly Crawford a file, containing the case of Reggie Lewis (in which Kimberly was the witness when she was 13 years old).

At the hospital, Frank sees the mother one of the schoolbus shooting victims and comforts her. He then, alongside Mayor Peter Chase, attend a press conference. The Mayor announces a $10,000 reward for any tip that leads to an arrest of the shooting (whose victims are named David Hoffman and Elijah Chesnik). A reporter asks Frank about the investigation of the case, during which Mayor Chase interrupts, and says "Hate Crimes is investigating". Furthermore, he calls the shooting of a Black child "an isolated incident". In answering another question, Frank then says he is doing everything "with hands tied behind his back".

Afterwards, the Mayor the berates Frank for his remarks at the press conference, saying that it is not Frank's job to "not to supply reporters with more headlines".
