Grave Errors is the ninth episode of the tenth season of Blue Bloods.
Synopsis[]
While working on a case of a nanny accused of abuse, Erin disagrees with a psychiatric consultant, Dr. Alice Dornan, regarding her diagnosis and punishment suggestion. Anthony suggests recent changes in Erin's life (including the Mayor-elect endorsing her for the D.A.'s office and Nicky moving to San Francisco) may be clouding her judgment. Eddie confronts her boss, Sergeant McNichols, who has a personal vendetta against the Commissioner and the Reagan family name. Mayor-elect Peter Chase pushes Frank to make staffing changes, pushing him to replace Garrett with a new DCPI. Danny goes undercover on a case when a woman claims to have heard someone plotting a murder at the bar where she works. Danny remembers an incident at this same bar which resulted in one of his first collars, and correctly deduces he's being set up by the woman and the suspect she named.
Recap[]
Detailed recap of the episode which contains MAJOR SPOILERS. |
Danny is happy Baez is back. A woman comes to the 54th Precinct to report a murder plot. The woman is a bartender who says she overheard a guy named Joe saying would kill someone. Baez thinks the bartender was drunk and so was Joe. The bartender thinks it's for real.
Baez believes this is a thin case. Danny says his second case was a guy who snapped and killed a kid. He believes they should investigate. Erin is angry at a psychiatrist, after the psychiatrist states an abusive nanny is not competent to stand trial. Erin disagrees. Eddie drives her boss (Sergeant McNichols) during a rainstorm. Sergeant McNichols dislikes Eddie's action of taking a different route, after she told Eddie to take a different route. After this incident, Sergeant McNichols prohibits Eddie speaking to her in the car. Mayor Chase wants Frank to talk directly with him, no press. He wants the NYPD to reinstate stop, question and frisk. Frank says they still follow this policy. Chase doesn't think believe it's enforced enough. Additionally, he wants vagrancy laws enforced. For his last request, he requests Frank to relieve Garrett of his duties as DCPI, picking someone else to replace him. Chase's reasoning for replacing Garrett is because he believes Garrett cares too much about his image. Eddie complains to Jamie, however doesn't want him to talk to her Sergeant McNichols. Jamie says Sergeant McNichols will love Eddie once she gets to know her. Erin is hostile to the psychiatrist. Erin believes the facts are clear in the case she's prosecuting. The psychiatrist states remanding the defendant to a psychiatric hospital is not setting the defendant free. Erin fires the psychiatrist. Anthony is upset at Erin's action, however Erin won't discuss it. Frank pours himself a drink. He tells Henry about his meeting with the Mayor and how he wants him to replace Garrett. He believes Chase wants to use him as a scapegoat when unpopular laws are enforced. Danny is undercover. He talking to Joe, who is not interested in him. Danny gets him to trust him a little. Joe offers him money for "a job." He gives Danny an address and leaves Danny, apparently freaked out after a bar fight breaks out. Garrett is in Frank's office when Frank comes in. He states the view is calming. Garrett is anxious about the changes and says he received an offer he can't pass up. He has been offered a job at Duke University which involves an extensive amount of traveling. He states it has nothing to do with the City Hall transition. Frank is sorry to see him go. Danny finds Joe at a construction site. Joe is mad and tells Danny he wants him to kill Roxy. He wants Danny to do it his way: shoot her in the head and dig her grave. He's not happy when Danny says the task will take a few days. Anthony receives a text. Meanwhile, Erin has a new psychiatrist to speak to the defendant. Anthony says it's okay to be lost to Erin. Erin gives up the DA job, Nicky leaves and Jack (her ex-husband) is on and off again. Anthony believes Erin is having a midlife crisis. Erin doesn't want to talk about it. Eddie brings Sergeant McNichols coffee. Sergeant McNichols criticizes Eddie twice within the space of a minute, however claims to not have a problem with her. Sergeant McNichols states she's not going to belittle Eddie for her last name. She states Frank is a fraud and a hypocrite who doesn't care for any family besides his own. Danny and Baez speak to Roxy who says she didn't date Joe. Roxy states she had two dates with Joe. Baez says to Roxy they're unable to arrest Joe until they have proof of Roxy's murder. They tell Roxy they need to fake Roxy's death and take a picture. At family dinner, Sean makes dinner for the first time and is not happy Danny won't raise his allowance. Frank seems to not be fully present. Henry won't leave Frank alone. Eddie wonders if she is missing some family code. Frank states the personnel changes in his office are confidential. He doesn't like change. Sean understands how Frank feels. He says if Danny raises his allowance he can save to see Jack and Nicky. No one buys it. Erin decides to see the psychiatrist she fired. The psychiatrist is angry when Erin meets her, because she has been fired in Brooklyn as well. Erin states she was out of line, however this case should be a slam dunk. The psychiatrist states her findings are based on science and facts. Erin says to her, "so you stand by what you said?" The psychiatrist states she didn't at first. Ever since she was mugged, she's wanted revenge on every violent person she sees. However, once she realized where her feelings were coming from, she put them aside. Erin understands her perspective. Baker tells Eddie this is the only time she's sharing confidential information with Eddie. She says Sergeant McNichols' ex-husband was accused of abusive behavior. His partner recanted, however Frank disciplined the ex-husband. Eventually her husband was terminated from the NYPD and divorced Sergeant McNichols. Frank tells Garrett what the Mayor said. He tries to explain he doesn't agree with the Mayor. Garrett believes Frank should give the Mayor something. Frank asks if he was surprised to get the offer from Duke University. Garrett is annoyed, however says he was surprised. Frank hopes this is all Garrett needs to know about the situation, and says to Garrett, "the advice to Woodward and Bernstein" before he goes. Roxy is nervous about faking her death. Danny says Roxy has to be in a ditch for a second, for him to make her appear dead. She thanks Danny for believing her. Danny puts makeup on her. All of a sudden, she grabs a shovel. Baez quickly warns Danny. It turns out the woman is the daughter of the person Danny mentioned earlier, the person he arrested for the pool cue murder. Eddie pulls over the car to talk to Sergeant McNichols woman to woman. She pretends Jamie abused her because she texted a guy. Sergeant McNichols states no one has the right to put their hands on a woman. Eddie tells her to take her own advice. She tries to convince her to forgive herself for what Steve (her ex-husband) did to her. Erin resolves her previous disagreement with the psychiatrist and uses her for the case again. The psychiatrist offers to talk if Erin wishes to. Anthony shows up and asks if everything is okay between them now. Erin apologizes for her overreaction. Chase comes to see Frank -- and is surprised Garrett is there too. Garrett rejects the job offering from Duke University, because Chase's wife is on the board of trustees, and Chase and his wife have donated $50K to Duke. Frank and Garrett tell stories about Garrett being mean and tough when he needs to be. Chase says he doesn't pave the way for people to succeed. He likes to put obstacles in people's way to test them. Frank tells Chase they don't have time for mind games. Chase is surprised Garrett and Frank are a team, and Garrett would rejected the job offering. Frank will meet with the other candidates for DCPI as they may be able to assist Garrett. Chase says once he's sworn in, what he says goes. |
