Derek Elwood was a Captain in the New York City Police Department. He served in the Internal Affairs Bureau. He was arrested in 2013 when he was found to frame Detective Reagan for a crime.

Biography []

Captain Elwood first met Detective Curatola and Detective Reagan after an officer involved shooting of Officer Tedesco[1]. Captain Elwood cleared Detective Reagan of any wrongdoing related to the shooting, claiming the evidence supported Detective Reagan's statements[2].

During summer of 2012, Captain Elwood shared details with Detective Lansing about marital problems he experienced, and requested her perspective on his situation[3].

It was discovered Captain Elwood spent a vast amount of money on gambling, causing financial and marital problems. When his problems were about to be exposed, he decided to frame Detective Reagan [4] with a crime.

Captain Elwood drove an unmarked police car to Detective Reagan's home.[5] Captain Elwood stole Detective Reagan's firearm, and planted approximately 2 kilos of cocaine inside Detective Reagan's personal vehicle[6].

In an attempt to retrieve the black book, Captain Elwood murdered Alan Grier (his bookie) with Detective Reagan's firearm, however he was unable to locate the book.

Detective Lansing called Captain Elwood into the 54th Precinct, where Detective Reagan confronted him in an interview room. Captain Elwood was arrested by Sergeant Gormley with assistance from Assistant District Attorney Ward, Detective Lansing and Detective Reagan.
