Abigail Baker is a detective in the New York City Police Department. She serves as the primary aide to the commissioner. In the position, she serves as part of the Commissioner's Security Detail. Detective Baker is responsible for preparing and accessing Commissioner Reagan's official schedule. Detective Baker acts as the final liaison between anyone who wishes to speak or meet with the commissioner. No one is able to speak or meet with Commissioner Reagan without her approval. Detective Baker assists the commissioner in the transmission of communications coming directly from his office in One Police Plaza. Her loyalty to Commissioner Reagan, along with her hard work and dedication to the NYPD, earned her a place in the commissioner's inner advisory circle.

Personality[]

Detective Baker frequently fulfills her duty with extreme professionalism. Detective Baker occasionally shares her viewpoint about an issue she feels strongly, and isn't afraid to speak up. Detective Baker has respect for her fellow co-workers and always does her best to perform what she is asked to do.

Relationships[]

Baker is married to Brian Baker and has two children with him. While she admits she is happy with him, her guard is up occasionally when it comes to her husband. Nevertheless, she loves him still. Besides her marriage, Baker has friendships, mainly in the NYPD.

Francis Reagan[]

As Commissioner Reagan's personal aide, Baker maintains an extremely close relationship with Commissioner Reagan. Throughout the series, Commissioner Reagan has been seen to care for Baker in a way similar to his daughter, Erin Reagan. Commissioner Reagan holds Baker in high regard and occasionally notes her achievements in front of others. For example, noting she holds the Medal for Valor. In Heavy is the Head, Baker requests permission to transfer back to her old boss. Commissioner Reagan is extremely saddened by her transfer request and personally investigates the motives of Baker's old boss, who is a Captain in the Internal Affairs Bureau. Commissioner Reagan discovers the reason behind Baker being asked to transfer back to the Internal Affairs Bureau was, because her old boss wanted a foot in 1PP. Therefore Commissioner Reagan had a personal and professional reason to deny Baker's transfer request. Throughout the series, Commissioner Reagan has been seen meeting Baker for cordial dinners. Detective Baker has been working with Commissioner Reagan for thirteen years.

Garrett Moore[]

Baker maintains a work relationship with Garrett. Baker and Garrett have regular conversations together, even when Commissioner Reagan is present.

Sidney Gormley[]

Since Gormley is a former detective, Baker and Gormley have similar viewpoints. Baker and Gormley occasionally share the same viewpoint on certain situations, and discuss those situations with each other. Baker and Gormley have regular conversations together occasionally.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • Baker has stated she is not Catholic. However she has not stated her religious views. (Leap of Faith)
  • Baker has at least two children with her husband, Brian Baker, as she was pregnant in Mother's Day, and the latter half of season seven.
  • Baker is seen speaking fluent Japanese to visiting dignitaries in Moonlighting.
  • Baker is usually on the sidelines in most episodes, only contributing news and information with other forms of conversation.  However there are certain episodes (frequently in season 8) where Baker is seen taking a prominent and leading role, similar to Baez.
